What is Ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha, or Withania somnifera, is an effective adaptogenic herb traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. Typically extracts and powders are made from the roots of the plant which can be used in a wide array of applications including stress management, antioxidant support, and muscle recovery.[1-4] The plant is rich in a number of potent compounds, though it’s main active constitutes are alkaloids and steroidal lactones, most notably withaferin A .[1, 2]
What are the benefits of Ashwagandha?
Reduction of Anxiety and Stress Ashwagandha supplementation is especially useful for people who work in high-tension environments, or those prone to anxiety and other cognitive impairments. In a clinical setting, it has been found to significantly reduce stress levels and measured cortisol levels when taken daily. Stay cool, calm, and collected with the powder of this ancient herb.
Antioxidant/ Cellular Protection Withaferin A had been identified as a potent antioxidant and specifically target mitochondria to provoke cancer cell-selective destruction. The compound helps to strengthen the antioxidant defense system, helping to protect neural cells so they can grow and communicate more effectively with one another.[3, 8]
Increase muscle mass and power output Clinical studies reveal that supplementing with Ashwagandha twice a day and partaking in resistance training resulted in significant muscle mass gain, reduction in exercise-induced muscle damage, and decrease in percentage of body fat compared to placebo.[4, 7]
Why take Ashwagandha supplements?
Adaptogens like Ashwagandha are aptly named, they help you manage stress and adapt to the situation at hand. Whether it is emotional, physical, or cellular.[1-8] Ashwagandha is a unique and exciting ingredient because it helps you perform your best, especially when the pressure is on.
